#49. Inspection Before Expectation

Psalms 139:23-24

Search me [thoroughly], O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there is any wicked or hurtful way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

The business mind recognizes, "staff members do what you inspect, not what you expect." In other words, when someone knows that  their work will be inspected, they are more likely to do what's assigned, and do it well! In a like manner, when we inspect with a discerning eye, what it is we really are expecting, we might be surprised by what we see.

For instance, "you say" you are expecting an employment promotion, but when your work attendance and performance is reviewed it's been documented that you have been late most mornings and your work has been mediocre at best! So do you really expect a promotion, or are you simply wishful thinking?

The point is, when you are expecting something, it is assumed you are preparing for it by your actions and attitude. Expectation is more than wanting something new, its positioning yourself for it as well. To expect something from God just because you prayed for it is presumption - first inspect yourself and examine the Word to determine wether both your heart and habits meet the criteria for that prayer to be granted.
